Edenvale is situated close to two major highways and the O R Tambo International Airport is only about 15 minutes away making it feel very central. It is located roughly 12KM by road from Sandton and roughly 9KM from the closest Gautrain station. Edenvale has the atmosphere of a peaceful town and one often forgets just how close it is to the city and all the bustling routes. Edenvale started out in 1903 as a small settlement named Rietfontein which sprung up around the Rietfontein Gold Mine.

During the last few years Edenvale has expanded significantly. Two large malls have been erected, Greenstone and Stoneridge mall. This develpment caused a shift in the commercial centre and has bankrupted businesses in Van Riebeeck avenue, Edenvale's CBD, forcing numerous stores to close their doors.

There are many places of interest close to Edenvale. These places include Gillooly’s Farm, Horwood’s Farm and numerous large shopping malls such as Eastgate and the East Rand Shopping Mall which is just minutes away. Edenvale boasts a tranquility that many enjoy when wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. There is a beautiful golf course here as well as many superb areas which offer a range of sporting and recreation facilities.

Edenvale's Glendower Golf Course is an extremely well designed course. The course opened in 1937 and is situated against a tree-covered slope. The superb kikuyu-covered fairways feature numerous hazards and lead to excellent greens. There are 85 bunkers and water comes into play on 11 of the holes. The course is beautiful to look at but very challenging to play.

Modderfontein, where in 1896 a factory was established for the manufacture of explosives, forms part of Edenvale. The Modderfontein dynamite factory has become one of the largest explosives and chemical factories in the world. The factory is now surrounded by a conservation park of 8000 ha, and is home to several species of buck and antelope and over 200 bird species.
