Bryanston is an upper class, wealthy residential suburb of Johannesburg. It was established in 1969 as a suburb of Sandton and provided with tarred roads and municipal services. After municipal boundaries were revised following the end of Apartheid, Sandton was merged with Johannesburg to form part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. The multi-lane N1 Western Johannesburg Bypass freeway forms its northern boundary with access at William Nicol offramp. Bryanston is bifurcated by Bryanston Drive, running from the outskirts of Randburg to the beginning of Morningside.

Bryanston has a fairly new corporate area called The Campus running along the two main roads, William Nicol and Main Road. Many large corporations are based in Bryanston, such as Dimension Data, which runs a large corporate campus, GlaxoSmithKline, Microsoft Corporation, Ogilvy & Mather and Synovate.

The suburb is home to the Bryanston Organic & Natural Market. For over 30 years the market has focused on offering the best quality natural and organic products. A visit to the market will find clothing made from natural fibres, unique hand-crafted gifts and jewellery, a deli section that offers organically grown and certified fresh produce, cold meats, sauces, speciality breads, cheese, exotic coffees and so much more. Children will have fun making candles and sand art; then everyone can enjoy refreshments in our leafy tea gardens and restaurants. We have 4 eateries that serve delicious pancakes, pizzas, quiches and curries - all are freshly made using only natural ingredients; vegetarians and diabetics are catered for.

The Bryanston Country Club, situated just a few blocks from Grosvenor Crossing, offers an 18 hole golf course as well as squash, bowls, tennis, and a pool for members and their guests. The Bryanston Shopping Centre has many top boutiques, restaurants, banks and department stores.

Bryanston is believed to be named after a village in the United Kingdom, or after Bryanston Square, also in the United Kingdom.
